Love, Actually – It's Everything You Ever Greek-ed About (2 min read)

Ah, Valentine’s Day – that time of year when everything's coming up roses (literally), chocolate sales skyrocket, and cupid’s arrow aims for the masses.

But let’s step away from the usual lovey-dovey fanfare and dive into love’s deeper waters – the kind that would make the ancient Greeks nod in approval.

The ancient Greeks didn’t just have a fling with love; they mapped out its seven glorious forms, they even had seven different words for each type - (talk about being thorough!).

So this February, why not explore a love that’s more Socratic than honey?

In their philosophical discussions (over wine, of course), they recognized that love isn't just about grand gestures or the heart-fluttering 'Eros' – it's also in the dependable 'Pragma' of long-standing friendships, the selfless 'Agape' found in acts of kindness, and yes, even the 'Philautia' in treating ourselves to a little self-love (like indulging in your favorite jewelry, perhaps?).

This Valentine's, let's take a page from their epic tales and celebrate love in its many forms. Whether you're experiencing the playful 'Ludus' with a new hobby, the familial 'Storge' around the family dinner table, or the companionship of 'Philia' with your best friends over a shared love of art, every love is valid and vital.

So go ahead, scribble a note of 'Agape,' share a moment of 'Storge,' and maybe treat yourself to a 'Philautia'-fueled treasure.

Here's to a Valentine's Day that honors love in all its splendid forms, with a touch of humor, a pinch of wisdom, and a whole lot of heart.(Read all about the different kind of loves and meanings in this article, click here).
